Damien Hirst

My brief was to give the Damien Hirst YUM YUM a long lasting life by preserving the chocolate and displaying it as a wall hanging. Having previously made a sign for a graphics agency the process of hanging a large resin piece was familiar territory. As you’ll see from the images I custom made a bracket for this. The encapsulated YUM YUM slots neatly into the wall mounted bracket allowing it to be easily removed for a closer look. The challenge with this commission was to encapsulate the soft chocolate inside the warm resin without the chocolate losing its texture, shape or colour. Further down you’ll see the test pieces that experimented with how the chocolate might be affected under different sunlight and room temperature conditions. It’s all a bit scientific but quite good fun really.
