Waste Not Want Not is about converting disused objects into innovative pieces of lighting.

Off or On Lampshade

Off or On is a decorative shade which glows when the lamp is off or on. It is constructed from a single sheet of flexible plastic. The plastic charges while the lamp is in use, then emits light when the lamp is turned off. When the lamp is turned off the shade radiates a long lasting glow, which creates a cool, calming atmosphere in any room. Alternatively it can also be used as a children’s night light or energy saving device.

Bad Manners Table

Bad Manners is a development of the Play Light. This piece of furniture aims to make meal times relaxing and fun. It allows you to unwind, share ideas and allows people to take time out by encouraging them to play at the dinner table.

Sandwiched between two layers of glass is a layer of iron filings illuminated from beneath. These iron filings are manipulated by the magnetic tableware (salt & pepper, knives and forks etc). This table includes dimmer and colour changing facilities to adjust the lighting to suite your mood.

Play Light

This is a flat pack, easy to make light. Its design allows you to bring the natural elements we play in outdoors into our homes to be enjoyed. Spil aims to encourage people to engage in building their own light by providing them with the parts they need. However the design only truly comes alive when people incorporate their own found components, for example sand or leaves. After this the light will become a more valued part of your personal space.

Those who have used the Play Light find it fun, relaxing and therapeutic, describing it as a ‘limitless canvas that can encourage imagination through participation.’ Materials lit by the light were used to record journeys such as walks and as a communication tool to leave messages in.

Multifunctional Snake Unit

The Snake Unit can be anything you choose it to be. It can be used to create steps, seating, book shelves, sculptures, coffee tables, children’s den making or TV stand. The more it is used the more its potential becomes clear. The open sides allow you to learn how the unit works, whilst using the elastic cord to create an innovative feature. The Snake Unit consists of eight 250mm lightweight cubes, joined using a single length of elastic cord, which both structures the cubes and acts as an axis on which the cubes can be turned.

Compassionate Stool

This unique piece of furniture enables you to grow a plant from seed or cutting inside it. You will witness the whole process from germination to sprouting seed. As your appreciation for the plant inside grows so will your appreciation for the stool.
The stool is made from clear materials including the propagation gel inside, which feeds the plant and allows the roots to become a decorative feature. On the outside of the stool is a grass footrest that slots in allowing you to have the feeling of grass between your toes more often.

In this way Peter aims to create products that become an intrinsic part of peoples lifestyles, personal environment and identity, in order to combat wastefulness and a sense of dissatisfaction that today’s consumer society can often encounter.

A key trait of every product created by Peter is the interaction of the user in creating it, usually through play. The user must hunt for their own components, rearrange the piece to suite their mood or nurture it to achieve a final result. Either way interaction with our surrounding environment is promoted. Peter hopes this will carry through into other areas of our customer’s lives and generate a better awareness and observation of the world’s unique environments.
